Heirloom dating back to 1880. Bright purple top and creamy white below the soil line, can grow 5 inches or greater in diameter but are best enjoyed around a diameter of 2 or 3 inches. Smooth roots can be eaten fresh or cooked. Sweet and mild when eaten young. Tender new leaves can be cooked and eaten as well. Enjoys cooler weather and can be sown successively.
